Description
Robe violacée très brillante. Le nez intense est empreint d’une noblesse divine. En plus du trio classique violette, cerise, poivre blanc, de jolies notes d’épices ajoutent à ce 2013 une dimension supplémentaire. La bouche est bien mûre pour un millésime qui offre bien souvent des densités fluettes voir maigres. L’effet millésime est tout de même au rendez-vous, Jean-Louis Chave taille ici ses 2013 dans la finesse du toucher pour le plus grand plaisir du dégustateur !

"Still in barrel at the time of this tasting, the 2013 Hermitage will certainly be one of the wines of the vintage. Offering classic, granite-induced notes of smoked dark fruits, graphite, searing minerality and bouquet garni, this sensational Hermitage has medium to full-bodied richness, beautiful mid-palate density and building tannin, all with the freshness and purity of the vintage. Reminiscent of a more backwards, tight, focused and granite-driven year (I asked Jean-Louis if there was a similar vintage he could recall, he commented that he couldn't think of one), it has solid ripeness in its aromas and flavors, good sweetness in its tannin, and a great finish. I suspect it will need 7-8 years of cellaring and keep for 20-25 years or more."

"Solidly built, with a serious bolt of smoldering charcoal through the core of dark cherry, plum and blackberry preserves. Lots of bay, sage and leather fill in the background, though the dark fruit easily keeps the upper hand. Superior drive and a long sanguine echo define the finish. "The 2013 Hermitage is a beautifully expressive Syrah, which comes from a combination of seven plots, which are all dense with granite soils. These mineral characteristics are evident in this beautifully made, terroir driven wine from Domaine Jean-Louis Chave. As this begins to open it releases gorgeous aromas of blackberries and plums, followed by spices, pepper, smoke, fresh floral, leather and of course the graphite minerality. On the palate this is beautifully balanced and focused, with a gorgeous texture and a wonderful mineral laced core, which expands seamlessly into the long lingering finish. Today, this already offers some early appeal, however Chave’s Hermitage are known to age with the best, and I only expect to the take on a new personality as it evolves over the next few decades."
